CARING FOR WOOD FURNITURE:

Rustic pine furniture is "real" wood and will last you for many years if you follow the tips below to eliminate "bad" conditions.

Light - Placing furniture in direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time can cause it to bleach its natural color and become very dry and very pale in color. This can be avoided by being aware of this potential problem and placing the furniture so that this does not happen. If you cannot avoid this, be sure you oil and wax at least once a year, with a recognized brand of furniture wax or oil.

Temperature and Humidity - Wood, even when it is painted or finished, is porous and will absorb water and swell. If it is too near heating or the sunshine it will dry out and tend to crack. If possible, try to keep your furniture away from too much heat and humidity and periodically wipe with a damp cloth.

Cleaning - Never clean unfinished wood with too much water, it will absorb it and swell. Cleaning is best done with a vacuum cleaner attachment because of rustic pines rough surface.

Handling - Avoid repeated handling in the same location if you have unfinished, natural furniture. The wood will absorb the oils from your skin and discolor. Wax your furniture annually using a high quality wax and applying with a soft cloth to avoid build up. If needed, shine can be periodically renewed by lightly buffing with a soft cloth.

Protection - Avoid dragging any wood furniture - Lift it! Pick up chairs by the seat, not by the back. Protect surfaces with coasters or cover with glass. Use felt or rubber pads between the glass and the wood surface.
